How to make chola matar Recipe: step by step photos

Step 1: Soak the matar or dried white pea for 6-7 hours or overnight.
Step 2: Drain the water and pressure cook with 3 to 4 cups of water also add 3/4 tsp salt. Mix well and pressure cook the peas until it completely cooked.
Step 3: For preparing masala, heat a pan with 2 tbsp oil.
Step 4: When the oil is hot , splutter 1/2 tsp cumin seeds and add bay leaves.
Step 5: Then add chopped onions and fry till it turns translucent, add ginger garlic paste and sauté for a while.
Step 6: Then add tomatoes and green chillies and sauté for a minute. Then add following spices to the masala as well - turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, garam masala, sauté the masala until oil starts leaving its edges. Keep stirring at regular intervals on medium flame.
Step 7: Now add the boiled peas to the masala. Add water as required to make peas thick or thin in consistency. Add salt as per taste, followed by amchur powder and mix well. Cover and cook the chole foe 3-4 minutes on medium flame.
 
Step 8: After 4 minutes, turns off the flame and transfer the cooked chole to a serving bowl. Garnish with some green coriander leaves. Serve steaming hot with paratha, kulcha, naan, poori or roti.
