Besan chilla ki sabji

Serves: 4

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup besan/ gram flour,
  • 1 tbsp turmeric powder,
  • 2 tbsp red chilli powder,
  • 1tsp cumin seeds,
  • 1 tsp ajwain,
  • 1 tsp garam masala,
  • 1 tbsp cumin powder,
  • 2 tbsp coriander powder,
  • 2 large onions,
  • 1 large tomato,
  • 1 tbsp ginger,
  • 3 cloves of garlic/ 1 tsp garlic paste,
  • 1 bay leaf,
  • Salt as per taste.
                           

Method: 

Step 1: Take besan in a bowl and add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tbsp red chilli powder, 1 tsp ajwain and 1/2 tsp salt in it.
Step 2: Mix it properly and add 1/2 cup of water in it. Add water little at a time.
                  
Step 3: Mix every thing. Adding water will be less or more depending on the texture of the besan.
Step 4: Mix to a smooth flowing consistency in the batter. Break lumps of any.
Step 5: Heat pan / tawa on low flame. Then spread a bit of oil on the pan.
                
Step 6: Let the pan become medium hot then take a ladle full of batter and pour on the pan. Gently with the back of the ladle , begin to spread the batter so that it doesn't break.
Step 7: On the low flame cook the cheela till the top begins to look cooked. Then start folding from one side and make a roll and cook for few seconds and put it aside.
             
Step 8: Make others with the remaining batter repeating above steps.
Step 9: Now take one roll and cut it into small pieces. Cut all the besan rolls.
Step 10: For curry, take a pan and heat oil in it.
           
Step 11: Add cumin seeds and bay leaf.
Step 12: When cumin seeds start sputtering, add chopped onions in it and cook till became translucent.
        
Step 13: Add chopped ginger and garlic into it and cook for a min.
Step 14: Add all spices, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, salt and mix it . Cook it for a minute.
      
Step 15: Now add chopped tomato in it and mix it.
Step 16: Cook the masala till it start leaving oil or it properly cooked.
    
Step 17: Now add 1 cup water in it . Let it simmer for few minutes. Consistency oh gravy can be adjusted by adding more or less water in it.
Step 18: After gravy is fully cooked, add cut besan roll in it. Simmer on low flame for a minute.
  
Step 19: Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
Step 20: Besan chilla sabji is ready to serve. Serve hot with rice or chapati.
